Story:
For nine generations, the Mortal Kombat tournament was ruled by the Outworld's finest warrior, Prince Goro. It was agreed that if the Outworld could claim victory in 10 consecutive tournaments, it would then rule the Earth. With the Earth on the brink of destruction, a new generation of warriors gathered and claimed victory.

With victory in hand, warrior monk, Liu Kang, had now become the new champion. But his victory was short lived. He and his comrades were lured into the Outworld to compete in a second tournament.

But Liu Kang and his comrades discovered an evil deception. The tournament was merely a diversion devised by the Dark Emperor, Shao Kahn, to break the rules set forth by the Elder Gods. The Dark Emperor would witness the reincarnation of his former Queen, Sindel. This unholy act gave Shao Kahn the power to step through the dimensional gates to reclaim his Queen and seize control of the Earth.

This trilogy of events comprises Shao Kahn's final attempt at taking control of the Earth.

Notes:

  • If you picked a character on the Right side (a male character) then you'll fight Kitana, Sonya, Mileena, Kintaro, and Shao Kahn, in that order. If you picked a character on the Left side (a female character), then you'll fight Sektor, Ermac, Cyrax, Sub-Zero, and Shao Kahn, in that order.
  • The only way to finish off your opponent, after it says "Finish Him/Her", is by performing that character's special move.
  • You must beat your opponent in 2 of the 3 bouts to advance to the next round.
  • Shao Kahn can only morph into the characters you've already beat earlier in the game.
  • There are no skill levels
  • You beat the game if you get 8550 Points. If not, then you start over

    Point System:

  • 10 Points for a successful normal attack.
  • 70 Points for a sucessful special move attack.
  • 400 Points for winning a bout
  • 600 Points for defeating Shao Kahn

    Basic Moves:
    ON/START = To turn on unit, to start the game, to start each bout, and to start each round
    SELECT = To select a fighter
    SOUND = to control sound: on/off
    OFF = To turn off the unit
    HIGH PUNCH = To throw a High Punch
    LOW PUNCH = To throw a Low Punch
    HIGH KICK = To kick a High Kick
    Low KICK = To kick a Low Kick
    UP = To jump up
    DOWN = To crouch
    RIGHT = To move right and to block opponents attacking from the left
    LEFT = To move left and to block opponents attacking from the right

    • KITANA "Kitana is accused of murder after killing her sister Mileena. Shao Kahn sends a group of ninjas to bring her back to him. While avoiding Kahn’s warriors, she must reach her mother, Sindel, and warn her of who she really is."

    SONYA "Sonya disappears in the first tournament, but is rescued by Jax from Shao Kahn. She tries to warn the USA of the Outworld, but lacking proof, she must watch as the Earth's souls are taken."

    MILEENA "Murdered by her twin sister, Kitana, Mileena finds herself murdered by her own sister. She is brought back to life by Shao Kahn, in this tournament."

    SEKTOR "First of the cyber assassins, he volunteers for automation because of his loyalty to the clan. He survives the first Outworld invasion because Shao Kahn can't detect his soulless body."

    ERMAC "Ermac is a force of the dead Outworld warriors brought into a deadly warrior by Shao Kahn. He uses telekinetic powers to try and defeat the Earth warriors."

    CYRAX "He is programmed to assassinate Sub-Zero, like his counterpart, Sektor, he goes undetected by Kahn and is a possible threat to his victory against Earth."

    SUB-ZERO "Sub-Zero is thought to have been killed in the first tournament, but returns with plans to, with his clan, defeat and kill Shang Tsung."

    KINTARO (not playable) "When Goro goes missing, Kintaro goes seeking revenge on who killed his counterpart. Stronger then his partner, he has the speed and power to defeat the Earth warriors."

    SHAO KAHN (not playable) "Long ago Kahn took control of Outworld and took Sindel for his bride. Later she died by suicide, because a life with Kahn is a thousand deaths, for she was more of his slave than Queen. Then Shao Kahn got his shadow priests, led by Shang Tsung, and had Sindel's soul, after being tainted with evil, put on earth to later be reborn. Now, she is born, and he rules again! She is the key to his access of the earth portals."
